In reply to the discussion: Romney grossly overestimated the country's hatred of Obama... [View all]Spitfire of ATJ
(32,723 posts)They HATE HIM but he was like that late night party guest that doesn't want to take a hint that the party is over.
They know Obama is going to win but they needed a disposable candidate that seemed viable. Of all of them, Romney was one they wanted to dispose of the most. He's so arrogant that he can't get along with other Republicans. All of their first tier people didn't want to go down in history as having been the one to run against America's first black president AND they KNEW they would be associated with the racism within the party that would surface in a campaign like that.
Romney is so fixated on getting the job that he doesn't care about either one of those. The GOP introduced him to the neocons who they also wanted to get rid of. Then there's the toxic budget written by Ryan they want to distance themselves from. So they felt the best tactic was to put all of them on the same ticket and when they lose they tell them they were rejected by the American People and call them "losers".
This is like a situation of two rival warlords. One goes to the other to suggest they form an alliance and then sends them into an enemy ambush to be slaughtered.
