48. Hmmmm... I was thinking back....

My mom would make my dad drop me off at church.
They didn't attend.

What the hell is one supposed to make of that?

I went to Sunday School dutifully until I as about 8. At that time I loved Greek Myths and had read Edith Hamilton's book on Greek Mythology. It was cool. So in Sunday School they were talking about Adam and Eve and the talking snake and I said thought it was a good myth (it is). Wham! The teacher freaked and dressed me down in front of the class. "It's not a myth!". It had never occurred to me anyone, much less an adult, would take such a story literally. It's obviously a Hebrew myth.... just like a Greek myth.
After that, I would wave daddy goodbye as he drove off and then immediately walk away from the church and go to my Grandmother's house nearby. I knew she'd be a church! I'd watch Bullwinkle and eat Eskimo Pies until dad came to pick me up there.... as prearranged.
