15. Yep. I grew up surrounded by farmers...

Most of them relatives. Two farming uncles lived next door and always drove their pickups into the ground. The truck had to be seriously dead to get retired - these guys were old-school farmers with their own workshops where they could fix nearly anything.

They never sold or traded in the rusting carcasses, either; those got parked in the Back Forty. Just in case they could use some parts on their next truck...which was NEVER bought new, as you noted.

Just FTR, those trucks were always Chevys. So FOAD, flag-waving, Bible-thumping, Paul Harvey-fellating Chrysler.

One of those uncles also had a car. Until well into the 1950s, it was a Ford Model A (only built from 1928-31). There's a family yarn about a door flying open once on that Model A, almost sending Infant Onager and his Mom on a personal investigation into that whole God thing.

Then he got a '53 Chevy that he drove until well into the 1970s.

One of our farming neighbors had a gutted Model T Ford in his back yard. I tried to buy that thing from him repeatedly as a kid, but he wouldn't sell.
