1. I remember going to one of the major bases on several occasions in Ballad, Iraq

they even had a car dealer and Harley dealer on post - in Iraq. You couldn't take delivery of you car there, but they'd make sure it was waiting in your driveway when you got home from deployment.

However, there was only one fast food restaurant there. It was a Burger King and it was probably the worst Burger King I'd ever eaten at. Even considering that I was eating MREs all the time, it still tasted like crap.

I don't know about Afghanistan, but our living conditions in Iraq were top notch when I was there in 2004. I lived in a (small) camper like room with electricity and air conditioning. Many guys bought satellite dishes so that they could get TV, but the stations sucked and we only got crappy stations from the mid east and eastern europe.
