(11,181 posts)I'm really not trying to be argumentative or intrusive, but you appear to be a well balanced individual, with a heightened awareness of your surroundings.
I am just curious as to what makes you so vulnerable that you feel the need to carry for personal protection.
Maybe you are female, which one poster suggested somewhere, but I got the impression you were male. I can understand why many would want to carry, especially females, those who have received threats, those with high risk jobs and those who are obvious targets for such crimes as robbery or kidnapping.
For me, making such a decision is always based on odds, as I see them.
Wearing a seatbelt, for example, makes a lot of sense when traveling on a regular highway. Odds are that eventually, if you cover enough miles, you will benefit from that seatbelt. However, on certain roads and under certain conditions, you may well be better off not wearing one.
I see carrying a gun is similar, yet opposite, to the seatbelt.
In your case, I would imagine the danger is more likely to come from an accident or mishap, rather than from an attack. I notice you let others handle your guns, which always contains certain risks.
I don't think the insurance analogy is valid, because insurance is about money and compensation. Doesn't help prevent anything. In fact, it probably has a negative impact overall. Those without insurance tend to drive more carefully.
