Band saw safety and table saw safety were taught in my 7th grade woodshop class

Guns would be way down on the list. As you know gun accidents kill very few kids a year.

I was taught safe use of several power saws, safety while swimming (in lakes, most often),

I had to take shop also in the 70s. Things sure do change. Not even drivers ed at my kids school.
