Trying to restrict ammunition is not going to work. Even a relatively small quantity that would be reasonable for a law abiding sportsman to possess is way more than enough to commit a mass shooting, as evidenced by recent events where the perpetrator fired anywhere between 10 and 150 rounds. 150 rounds is a very modest amount, and can be burned up in a short afternoon practice session. And if you are going to allow people to own guns, they need to be able to practice. Those who practice regularly and are proficient and familiar with their firearm are also safer with them, and have fewer accidents.
