I have swabbed the leaves and stems (whenever I see the infestations) with a Q-tip soaked in alcohol.

If it is whitefly, I have had to throw the plants away, I have never been able to have success indoors with them. Outdoors, I used a tobacco tea as a spray and it was very effective.
