the very same policies that Gandhi fought so hard for were the ones that ultimately lead to the deaths of over a million innocent people during the Partition that immediately followed the end of the Raj. Compare that to the casualties from the two wars that accompanied Israel gaining its independence which topped out at 15,000-20,000 deaths, (total, from all sides.)
Compared to Israel I doubt whether we can say that Gandhi actually "won" anything at all once we consider the price that was paid.
