6. Change your password and get a new e-mail provider

I use Yahoo as a "throwaway address" for ordering stuff online and so forth, and my real e-mail comes to my GMail address.

I was using the e-mail address provided by Comcast, but its spam filter was over-enthusiastic. It bounced legitimate e-mails from my clients without telling me or sending them to the Spam folder. I gradually transferred my personal and business e-mail to GMail. The Comcast address is still active (it's part of the deal for getting cable Internet), but I check it only once a day, just in case someone didn't get the word about the change or forgets.

GMail seems to have an appropriate spam filter (a legitimate message ends up in Spam about once every two or three months).
