Please attend a community meeting to STOP Social Security Field Office closures.
When: Friday, January 13 1:30-3:p.m.
Where: International District/
Chinatown Community Center,
719 8th Avenue S. Seattle
The Social Security Administration (SSA) , plans to close nighborhood offices in the International District and Belltown-replacing them with an office in the high-security Jackson Federal Bldg.
- All visitors must have federal or state picture ID to enter.
- All belongings will be searched.
- No onsight parking: two disability street parking spaces.
- Entrance has high-security check point: no interpreter assistance.
The most vulnerable: the elderly, immigrants; refugees; people with physical & mental disabilities, very low on no income and the homeless will suffer disproportionately from the barriers to entry.
SSA Regional Commissioner Stanley Friendship will be present. Let him know we want him to reverse his decision and find a location that is accessible and equitable.
Please join community members from the International District amd representatives from other communities as we send a strong message to the SSA.
