The Democrats, who now hold 26 seats in the chamber, might regain their supermajority quickly, with special elections scheduled for (departed Juan) Vargas' (San Diego) seat on March 12 and Negrete McLeod's (Chino) on May 14. Analysts say both are expected to stay in Democratic hands.
