What did you think of the movie "A Scanner Darkly?" [View all]

I loved the book. I love Phillip K Dick. My favorite SF author and quite possibly my favorite author altogether.

The movie was the best adaptation of a PKD novel ever done. The others were either action packed fantasy epics that watered down the story for mass consumption, or they weren't really adaptations at all ("Blade Runner" is almost completely different than "Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep?" - great movie, but it's not DADOES)

This movie had stoner culture down, updated for the movie yet keeping extremely loyal to the book. Linklater is an awesome director, and us much as we Xers want to claim him - he's a Boomer, not an Xer.

Reeves does Arctor perfectly - and the gut wrenching ending from the book is done beautifully, and even includes the afterword. This is where PKD lists all of his friends who suffered "way too much" for trying to feel better. PKD includes himself on this list, and Linklater adds one of his college professors who had died from an OD.

The movie is rotoscoped, which works so much better here than in the creepy Schwab commercials. You feel as if you are in a drugged dream like state throughout the movie.

Go see it if you haven't
