12. If you can't recharge with a quick nap

 

try going to the bathroom and splashing cold water on your face. It helps to wake me up--at least for 15 to 20 minutes. But sometimes nothing helps but actual sleep. I too used to work different shifts...a rotating mix of day, eve, and midnight...all in the same week. It made getting into a sleep routine very tough. So sometimes even when I tried to sleep and be rested for work I couldn't fall asleep.

Regarding a job you hate and working for peanuts: consider transitioning into being self-employed. Find something you can do and like to do. It can be anything. If you are skilled (e.g., mechanic, plumber, accountant, programmer, etc.) consider moonlighting/freelancing on the side. But you can work doing most anything (e.g., landscaper, nanny, cleaning, painting, detailing cars, etc.).

Start working part-time on your days off or before/after your job shift. Yeah I know its tough to work MORE hours at first as you are doing two jobs. But as your part-time business grows you can eventually safely quit your day job and work for yourself. That's what I did after 25 years being a corporate wage slave.

It's a little scary but it can be done. Have faith in yourself.
