"Moran!" Where did THAT word come from? I was taught to spell it "moron".

When, a couple years ago, I posted what thought was a correction, some responses hinted that I was some kind of an ignoramus (or "moran" or "moron&quot .

Oh well, if "moran" has somehow insinuated its way into common usage, then, ipso facto, it is (very colloquial) English. That's how language works and evolves.

But I sincerely want to know where that word came from. Can someone out there in DU-land educate me?

Until then, I guess that I must remain uneducated.
