I thought this story had wings... no pun intended. When I was on twitter during the debates, the Big Bird comment got the most tweets...again, no pun intended and I remember thinking, "'Wow, I think this could really help Obama win."
It seems like in politics a small comment can really change an election. (Remember W's "evildoers and terrorist comments and Obama's message about hope?)Even though Romney mentioned he would cut PBS and NPR funding months ago, the press never really ran with it. But Romney put the nail in his own coffin during the debate. Yes, President Obama may not have had fire in his belly Wednesday night, but I think he knew if he played it cool and let his opponent have at it, he knew Romney would say something to cause his own demise.
So who won the debate? I think it was Big Bird. That goofy lovable character that was created to help children in lower economic families who could not afford to send their kids to preschool. This wonderful Bird may have helped save another generation of kids from a ruthless, detached, egocentric man who wants to pad the pocket of his buddies and their children who will never have to worry about being hungry, cold and able to afford a good education.
