8. Well of course we agree and pardon my back-patting.
My take is the banksters and admen have programmed us to want too-big houses and replacing cars, TV's, computers, and you-name-it's every few years even if one has to incur mountains of debt. Our collective personal debt is what drives up the incomes of the 1%'ers. I'd like to see the next generation become consumers of tourism but also parks, public education and transportation, art, culture, animal habitat, scientific research, etc. I don't believe that type of spending dooms one to austerity. And I have no problem demanding the wealthy pony up their share and then some.
And I do not own bootstraps. I was educated by NYS taxpayers. NYS taxpayers paid my salary as well as my parents'. NYS taxpayers saved my wife's life from cancer. I am indepted to NYS taxpayers and happily paid my taxes each of the last 30 years. We never had children but I don't begrudge paying school taxes for a minute. I'd like to pay more in NYS income taxes and have donated 10% of my salary, much to local charities, each of the last 25 years. I will receive a generous pension from NYS taxpayers and I pledge to remain in NY and spend most of that pension here. So you can see I am invested in the success of NY.
