In reply to the discussion: Trayvon Martin shooting: It's not George Zimmerman crying for help on 911 recording, 2 experts say [View all]notgoinback
(39 posts)I'm convinced Trayvon Martin's murder is a dream scenario for some
handgun fanatics. More than a few must be frustrated, yearning to
fire their glorious Glocks at real person instead of playing "Rambo"
at a firing range.
Think about it folks - what kind of a person would want to carry
around a deadly, easily concealed device, specifically intended to
kill human beings, if they didn't hope use it someday? What can
be said about a adult male who feels so helpless and frightened
can't even go grocery shopping without a loaded weapon hidden
in his clothing - something my 78-year-old grandmother manages
to do every Saturday?
This country has too many sorry examples of manhood who could
plant land mines around their houses, install rocket launchers in
every window and still be scared.
People with such irrational anxiety about their personal safety are
like "Silly Putty" in the hands of the NRA's propaganda peddlers.
Since pistols and revolvers (particularly the expensive ones) can
function for a century or more after rolling off an assembly line,
firearm manufacturers spend millions, financing organizations that
keep their members in a continuous state of paranoid agitation.
"THEY are coming to take your guns away!" ..."They're coming to
take your GUNS away!"... "Soon, they'll be coming to take YOUR
guns away!"
The NRA claims thousands of armed citizens have defended them-
selves from violent criminals. But, I can't remember the last time
I read a newspaper article that reported such a incident. The NRA
ferociously fought legislation that required background checks and
waiting periods before the purchase of any firearm, swearing that
only "responsible, law-abiding" people bought them legally. Yet so
far, more than 400,000 convicted felons and mentally unstable mis-
fits have tried and failed to obtain a weapon this way.
I doubt if all the sane hunters and sportsmen (and sportswomen)
sympathize with trigger-happy idiots like Zimmerman. Still, they
don't seem to realize we unarmed folks are not their enemies. We
all have friends and relatives who hunt, who store their guns in a
locked cabinet and who, unlike Dick Cheney, don't drink a few
beers, then shoot a friend in the face.
I don't own a gun because statistics show it would be 40 times
more likely to cause death or injury to me or someone I know
than provide us with any "protection".
I don't want to ban guns, I just want America to be a civilized
country, where nobody of any age or race can be murdered by
some brainless, SWAT team wannabe who can't be charged with
a crime!
