(10,857 posts)I'm glad all of this is finally landing on some of you, but it has been alleged since the late '90s that the ANZAC nations have been spying upon each others' civilians and sharing the results. That was how the US spied on its citizens before George Bush--by having our foreign friends review the captured signals intelligence.
It was assumed from the very beginning of those disclosures that NATO nations were doing the same.
Most of the US's coalition allies are also parliamentary-type nations with guarantees of privacy. But probably not a damned one of them says that you cannot allow your allies spy on you and report the results if they find anything interesting.
Don't bother reading the Wikipedia entry on ECHELON. The Man already got to it.
