17. He wanted tons of public money and his church would be the gatekeeper of social programs

Why could not he get his parishioners to fund the disadvantaged? It would have been a better use of money than building a fancy temple. I am disappointed that Americans are stingy and not generous. American households can budget $100/month for cable TV, but they can't aid children whose parents have lost their incomes.
