In reply to the discussion: Police Focusing On Adam Lanza’s Obsession With Video Games [View all]Ash_F
(5,861 posts)8. One thing I got from this is how some people really tried to reach out to him

"I'd go up and sit next to him. If he was sitting on the floor in the corner somewhere, I would do the same. If it took a half an hour to sit there in silence with him, at some point, you'd go, 'How we doing?'"And you wouldn't get an answer. But I had a gadget [like a Palm Pilot] with me at one time, where I handed him the gadget, and put it down and he wouldn't take it. But at some point, he started to play with it. And that actually got him to start to come back and interact and be ready to go take part in the events. No answer, but physically getting up and going. So I would be determined to succeed at helping him."
That was the head of Adam's high school tech club. I think it was probably a mistake for his mother to have pulled him out of that school and into the home where he was further isolated. But it does seem like his mother was at least trying, even if she was misguided. I'm no psychologist though.
Thanks for the read.
