Of course anti-regime figures have every reason to argue that he would. But I heard the other day (I think BBC, but can't remember where) that insiders think Assad will not leave the country because he fears being killed trying to exit and/or getting picked up for war crimes. So he's going to stay until the end. If he has to pick between getting the Ghaddafi treatment or using chemical weapons, it's possible he would choose the weapons.

I don't think it's going to come to that, but you never know.
