You'll pardon me if my bullshit detector goes off a bit, but the U.S. doesn't have the greatest track record when it comes to these claims. In fact, we have a long and storied history of just making shit up to suit our needs and goals. It will take more than some anonymous leaks repeating unconfirmed intelligence from unnamed sources before I'll believe a word of it.
