12. Don't bother. They won't get it. They'll just smile and say, "you're welcome, glad to help."

This is what Roberts and Alito were brought to the Court to do. Don't think the case later to be named "Citizens United" wasn't discussed prior to their nominations.

Cheney and Rove may be evil, but they are no idiots. They knew full well by the end of 2006 that no Republican would be elected President in 2008 (that's why the 2008 Democratic primary was so fiercely fought--it wasn't just for the nomination--it was for the presidency).

If that president was popular, he would be re-elected in 2012. What they COULD do is make it impossible for him to govern and then make a permanent grab for the White House in 2016, and have a Republican Congress to boot.

One ray of hope, though dim: if Roberts, as witnessed by his vote on ACA, really starts to hold the interests of our country in higher priority than that of his party's financial benefactors (SCOUTS judges never have to run for re-election, after all), then Citizens United MIGHT be overturned. Scalia, Kennedy and Alito blasted Roberts for his ACA vote. Maybe Roberts finally figured out that history does differentiate between Justices like Clarence Thomas and Justices like Thurgood Marshall.
