In reply to the discussion: Mass Shooting at Sikh Temple in Oak Creek, Wisconsin [View all]AnotherMcIntosh
(11,064 posts)183. Although mentioning "the NRA" is a dog-whistle to some, it has no effect on me because
(1) I have no serious interest in the NRA and do not perceive whatever it is that you think that they've done that is wrong, and
(2) the association falacy does not work with me.
From Wikipedia:
An association fallacy is an inductive informal fallacy of the type hasty generalization or red herring which asserts that qualities of one thing are inherently qualities of another, merely by an irrelevant association. The two types are sometimes referred to as guilt by association and honor by association. Association fallacies are a special case of red herring, and can be based on an appeal to emotion.

In contrast to FDR, JFK, and other Democratic Presidents who were life members of the NRA when it existed exclusively or primarily as a gun-safety organization (prior to the politicalization of the organization with the 1994 anti-gun law), I don't even know whether Obama has ever been a member of the NRA.
The NRA has become politicalized thanks to the 1994 Act. But I don't see how that affects me or (if the NRA has engaged in some wrong undescribed by you) how I can change that. Since 1994, the NRA has become an active supporter of many Republican candidates. But it also remains an active supporter of some Democratic candidates. The mere fact that the NRA has supported some Republican candidates is not inherently unusual nor does it show that everything that the NRA does is wrong. If you believe that NRA has done something wrong, why not describe that wrong instead of saying "Obama has pandered to the NRA."
As Wikipedia explains,
McCarthyism is the practice of making accusations of disloyalty, subversion, or treason without proper regard for evidence.

You say that "Obama has pandered to the NRA more than any other Dem in history." I see no evidence of that. In fact, I don't even know or suspect Obama of being a NRA sympathizer.
If you have evidence to support your statement "Obama has pandered to the NRA more than any other Dem in history," where is it?
