I don't know how much more evidence you need, the country is not controlled by the politicians they are mere figureheads and after pulling off the BRAZENLY BLATANT bullshit operation that was 9/11 and getting away with it, I don't think they are afraid of anything.

And the American people are idiots that don't remember last week much less 10 years ago.

And finally, the Bush administration specifically and the Republican party in general may be more responsible than the Dems for our wrecked economy, but after 3+ years of no improvement people start wondering if anyone is really trying. If you think Obama can run on the economy you are delusional - he may win but it will be in spite of the economy if he does.
