27. So this author assumes there weren't deaths related to being a slave. And his assumption that

freeing slave led to death by deseases like smallpox and cholera is idiotic. Those deseases existed prior to emancipation. He may have been correct that many died of starvation for two reasons: they had a hard time getting work because pro-slavery southerners refused to hire them and two they were never provided with the 40 acres and a mule they were promised.
