In any case involving the defensive use of deadly force, that the user was in imminent risk of Great Bodily Injury or Death needs to be established. It can be accepted by the DA in which case the matter is dropped. If it is not, it goes to trial.

All SYG does is remove the requirement to retreat. It does nothing to change the basic burden of self defense.
