(7,670 posts)"The capacity for organisms to select for certain traits is undeniable." That's sexual selection, explains such morphologies as the size of antlers, horns, tusks in many species, and maybe even the size of the human penis, which is the largest of all primates.
Or even "The capacity for single celled organisms to change their genes through horizontal gene transfer is undeniable." Not only undeniable but explains things such as the speed in which antibiotic resistance can take hold, etc.
Indeed its becoming more popular now to think that natural selection didn't really take primary place as the factor in evolution until well after life first established itself on this planet, about 3 billion years ago. But when multicellular life with sexual reproduction came on the scene, in those organisms, descent through modification and natural selection(along with sexual selection, genetic drift, etc.) took hold in a big way, i.e. "Darwinian" evolution.
