There's a common misconception among many that a single piece of gravel or small rock will mean the end of a bike at high speeds, but if anything, the gyro stability of the wheel and tire combination are much greater at highway speeds. It's going to take much more to cause the deflection of the wheel of any modern bike traveling in a straight line ( and yes, I've been a slow-goer on the bikes for the past 25 years).
