(15,774 posts)the principal/teacher/police should/should not have done is the fact that the school tried to call the PARENTS before they called the police. It was only after the police to the child into the station that the police finally got a hold of an aunt that could pick up the child. I know all schools require a contact number for emergencies. If I had a nickle for every time I could not get hold of parent or they 'could not' come and pick up their child I could retire rich (I am a Nurse so I only call for kids too ill or injured to be at school).
I find the fact that the parents could not be reached very interesting and may hold a key as to the child's home environment. Since the parents did not come to pick up there child, the school had to work within the parameters they have. They needed to protect staff, other students and the child. I will not second guess them. They did what they needed to do and no one was hurt except the principal and it was minor.
