I was a SAHM. and merely in the middle class. My husband never made six figures, substantially below that, and we simply made certain economic decisions that allowed me to stay home.
And no, it wasn't in the 1960's or even 1970's, but the 80's and 90's.
People sometimes have more choices than they realize they do.

Same here. I chose to stay home and be with our boys. It cost us in some ways. No regrets though.
