is headed for the hills. The Sandy Recovery Czar is leaving the state. Not a bad guy, but also not someone who was qualified or up to the job.
Marc Ferzan, who has headed the Office of Recovery and Rebuilding since it was created in late 2012, is moving to Virginia to "support a career opportunity for his wife," according to a press release obtained by The Star-Ledger that the governors office plans to distribute today.
You can read it here: http://www.nj.com/politics/index.ssf/2014/07/christies_storm_czar_mark_ferzan_to_resign.html
An interesting opinion piece on Mr. Ferzan:
During the more than a year and a half that he served as Sandy czar, the administration was criticized for its slowness in distributing federal aid; for its hiring of a contractor that bungled the relief effort; for its shameless use of Sandy money for TV ads starring Christie and political pet projects in towns barely scathed by the storm, such as a senior housing project in Belleville pushed by the governor.
The Christie administration is to blame here. Decisions were likely made at a higher level than Ferzan. But we have no regrets about his departure. No matter how hard he may have been working, doing it all behind closed doors is never an acceptable way to run a disaster recovery effort in a democracy.
