(8,175 posts)He originally did cooperate with the officer, returning to his truck and putting his hands on the hood. Because there is no video, no one knows why he started resisting. From a lot of videos I've seen of "police procedure", I believe quite often the police exacerbate the situation by being too rough and causing people to resist arrest in an effort to "defend themselves from physical harm", which is probably more likely to happen when inebriated.
I don't know if that's what happened here. Because no witness actually saw the whole thing, or at least has not yet been revealed to the public, we will probably never know and the officer will most likely be returned to duty.
It's a shame that there have been so many incidents to make us immediately suspicious of the police. They need to be trained to handle people better. Or they need to weed out the cops who cannot do it well.
