...the cops listened very carefully to the story of young, attractive lady who hit me. They then went over to the stretcher where I was lying with a broken neck, a dislocated shoulder, and blood streaming out of a wound on my head. According to the official report, this is approximately what happened next.

COP: What happened here, sir?

21-YEAR-OLD ME: (mumbles my story of crossing the street and getting hit by a car)

COP: She says you were running, though. Running around in the middle of the street.

ME: (in a daze) I dunno. Maybe I was running. My bad.

I don't really remember any of this, but this is was what it said in the police report that exonerated her conduct and left me, the pedestrian, at fault. When I finally got out of the hospital, my insurance carrier decided not to cover my injuries based on the cops' shitty investigation. My family had to sue the driver (who apparently had her license suspended back in her native Kentucky for multiple violations) before we received any compensation for an accident that nearly killed me.

Thank God I'm not black, or else the cops might have fined me and forced us to pay for the windshield that I maliciously broke.
