106. I was just in Moscow last week

I was just in Moscow last week, and it's a beautiful modern city. The people I met were very kind and patient (Russian is hard!). It's not some bleak, black-and-white landscape. Russia has problems. We have problems. They have Putin. We had Bush.

Much like here, the Russian people seem to run the gamut of philosophical and political beliefs. They are all quite aware of their history, but they have as much a right to proud of their heritage as we do of ours (good and bad). It's only been 20 years, and we are only now seeing the first post-Soviet generation.

I've been lurking here for years, and only just signed up. Some of the comments here really bothered me though with their broad-brush depictions of Russia and the people. Every country has its assholes, but good people keep trying to make things better everywhere.
