I don't know if her apology was genuine, but at least she saw the outrage that her fans felt, so in some way she was confronted by the notion that racism is wrong. We can hope she recognized it after realizing how offensive it is.

The biggest challenge fighting racism nowadays is denial. Many people don't realize how others feel when they say racist things. It's more important rather than to shame and punish them, to help them recognize it. Firing her will just cause people to lie about it rather than confront it.
