In reply to the discussion: anyone ever faint? [View all]marions ghost
(19,841 posts)I was listening to an excrutiatingly boring restaurant owner telling story after story at the check out. All of a sudden I just blacked out and fortunately fell towards the boring guy and he caught me. I came around as soon as he sat me down on a chair. Nobody was more surprised than me about that. It hasn't happened again and I don't stand in a locked position anymore.
You know how you see these pictures of soldiers at attention only one has pitched forward, out cold? That is why they train bands or military or anyone who has to stand for long periods to flex the knees often, don't lock them.
--"There are a few reasons why people faint, and standing for a long time in one position is one of them. This is called 'orthostatic syncope.' It happens even more if the knees are locked while standing, because the blood pools in the legs."
