In reply to the discussion: Happy ending massage therapists: Sex workers or not? [View all]hunter
(38,264 posts)68. What if the workers are robots and I own the massage parlor?
Would that make me a sex worker?

Or how 'bout the guy I hired to clean the robots. Is he a sex worker?
(Worse job in the world, I know, but he seems to like it... used to be the producer of some stupid TV show, Fear Factor I think he called it.)

It is not just semantics. Massage therapy is legal in most states, prostitution is not.

Um.. Look, I think consenting adults should be free to enter into whatever arrangements they want

Thank you. If consenting adults want to pay for "sex work", fine with me. But it does a disservice

Exactly. Great points. Thank you, Monsieur DeMontague, for the sage, sane reply (as usual).

Getting $ for sex=sex worker. Massage Therapy is like Physical Therapy. Sex is prohibited by law

How is rubbing a penis not sex if they have an orgasm? Is sex only penis/vagina? For procreation?

If they get paid for sex, which masturbating someone to an orgasm is, then yes, they are

Seriously. You pay for sex, get paid for sex, yes, it is sex work/sex customers.

Many people would like to believe human trafficking for sex work doesn't happen...

The euphemism "happy ending" means masturbation to orgasm and is not Massage Therapy any

Excellent points about this issue -- they are often exploited young women, new to the U.S.

I went to massage therapy school for a year and got a state license to practice.

I wonder if the OP knows for sure these people provide that service or if it is an assumption

I in no way mean to equate legitimate Massage Therapists with "freelancers."

They're prostitutes, but I don't blame them for wanting to avoid that title in our society.

I've noticed that quite often, mere disagreement with an opinion gets one branded

You get "a wonderful message"? Seriously? You pay for sex and a "message"?

Massage, not message. And this is a forum, have the right to comment on your posts.

If you don't want people commenting on your posts, maybe you shouldn't post. No, you aren't

If your doctor checked for testicular cancer and then kept rubbing until you got off

Exactly. Sophistry. This is a man (do women ever get these?) paying for a hand job with a "massage"

FWIW, back when I was in college I also had two friends who did happy ending massage
