were there as a personification of EVERYONE in uniform in their branch of service. In short, they were "living symbols."

It wouldn't have been appropriate to introduce them, really--it wasn't about them, personally--and I mean that in the nicest way.

I thought it was cool that FLOTUS put them in the scene, as it were. I'm sure the kids watching at bases around the world were gratified to see that they were being remembered.
