In reply to the discussion: How often do you eat fast food? [View all]Silent3
(15,204 posts)I know people in threads like this can't wait to flaunt their extreme disdain for fast food, processed foods, for anything that is "pure" by whatever metrics of purity and wholesomeness that they hold dear.
But let's get real. It's food. It's certainly better than no food at all. You can sustain yourself on it. Even though it's far from the healthiest choice you could make, a lot of people could probably eat fast food and nearly nothing else from being toddlers all the way up to a ripe old age, and get by reasonable well all of those years.
And it's not like if you eat only "pure" and "wholesome" foods that you're guaranteed to live past 100, running marathons everyday.
All of these food choices do nothing more than shift averages and tendencies, lower risk of that by a few percentage points, higher risk of some other thing by a few percentage points, average of a few more or a few fewer years of life, a matter of a tendency toward leanness or obesity.
Acting as if one or two trips to McDonalds or Taco Bell per week is practically a death sentence, as is such food is POISON!!11!1!!, is fanaticism and pretentious posing.
