They came into the house fairly often. When they did, they polished off any dry cat food that was out, and then left politely. During good weather our front door was usually open, and a raccoon would often appear around the time when I usually put food out for them and look in on us to let us know they were there. When they did come into the house, they always were on their best visiting behavior, and never got rowdy or destructive.

I don't recommend that people do this, by any means. I'm sort of an animal tamer guy. I also could go into the yard, hold peanuts or a handful of bird seed out in my hand and blue jays and other birds would fly down and sit on my hand to eat them. It's just something I do with the wild animals around places I live. They must think I'm an OK human and tell all their friends, because the numbers just kept growing.
