...but you take reasonable precautions. You have dogs that alert you of trouble an alarm system for when you are gone. I assume you lock your doors and have a phone in your bedroom at night.
All reasonable things to do.
Some people, myself included, take an extra precaution and have a weapon in the bedroom (pistol, shotgun, etc). It doesn't mean we live in fear either.

Even the fastest police cruiser (or race car), can't respond at 850 (roughly), fps.

5 minutes maybe for any 911 call. It's almost comical how fast they get here.

It's a big county, so it depends on where they are. Anywhere from 10 to 30 minutes.

Takes a bit under an hour to get to town, so that is the response time for cops in a best case
