But, if so, it is clearly important for her to be vaccinated each year (with the inactivated (killed) vaccine). However, it also gets a bit tricky with timing, IF she has been treated with immune-suppressive medications. One needs a fully functioning immune response to gain maximum benefit from this (or any) vaccine. Usually it is recommended to wait 4 weeks or so following a regimen of immunosupressive level of steroids or similar drugs before receiving flu vaccine, yet also getting it very early in the season is important as well. November is really a bit late--especially for anyone at risk for severe complications from influenza.
I trust the pharmacist discussed all this with her.
