They are often used to find relationships between different variables. In fact, if you were to ever do a study on this very topic, you would HAVE to use a correlational study for ethical reasons. You couldn't simply give one group a drug and another a placebo and see which one went out to commit rampage killings.
And, by the way, this is the SAME bullshit argument that tobacco companies used for years, to deny that smoking CAUSED lung cancer. We all know better now, don't we?
