18. One thing that strikes me about DU, and elsewhere

and on the left, right, center or near indifferent, is that folks seem to have the answer right from the get go. This Mali thing *has* to be about Western, or French imperialism. Or this *has* to be about fighting Islamic extremism.

I'll admit that I'm leaning towards the latter as of now. I may be very well be wrong, and if I am, I'll have zero problems admitting it. I'll be happy to have learned something.

But the OP, while perhaps badly worded, does kind of have a point: "It's easy to know which side leftists will back in any conflict: Whoever the West is fighting". This really does happen. It is an RW talking point, for sure, but that doesn't mean that there isn't some truth to it.
