but I attend a mainstream Protestant church that uses critical thinking in its reading and understanding of the Bible and acknowledges that all of God's creations are just that.

But this is a big misstep by the inaugural planning effort. A simple Google would have revealed this guy is controversial on a topic from which the majority of Americans have moved on. As a result the vetting process was either flawed or a wrong decision was taken.

Had the controversy been something the Administration supported (for example in the 1980s if he had been opposed to Apartheid and the Administration was opposed) there may have been reason to include him in the inauguration. But not someone who is so out of step both with the American people but also the Administration.
