(11,804 posts)I wouldn't presume to be the voice of the black community as i'm not a part of the community. I wouldn't presume to be the voice of the gay community because i'm not a part of that community. While i can play a role in promoting civil rights for blacks or gays, I can't go into those communities and speak for them. I can also take part in discussions of racial stereotypes and interpersonal relationships (i.e. those parts of this issue that interact directly with me).
On the other hand, while I am not a particularly good example of this (being single and male) - males are part of the same community that females are part of. I take your point that males need to do a lot more listening than they are now, and agree with that. But at the end of the day it should be a discussion which implies that all parts of the community need to participate.
