"Assault weapons" is a vague catch-all term. "Assault rifles" are military grade and fully automatic, which civilian versions are not.

And in this county, I would be surprised if my neighbors did not have them.

Almost none of the people who own military pattern weapons will ever "snap" (whatever that means).
