and i think your point has even broader meaning. I think that the more "hard" left of this country does more to hurt the gun violence situation than help it. They tend to polarize the debate giving gun owners a choice of the NRA view of "guns for all" (even though that is not their view entirely) and the "European view" (Extremely restricted, no ownership for self defense...etc)

I tend to think schumer in the last few years speaks best about it. He says that liberals/democrats need to accept that there is a 2nd amendment and to stop trying these streches of logic to minimalize it. He believes by doing that you might be able to find a common ground that allows for gun restrictions but still allows for people to own a wide variety of guns.
